Donation of blood platelets

Please note that the donation of blood platelets is more complex than a blood donation: The hospital will need to find out whether you have enough platelets in your blood. If you’re a donor, you probably know that, but if you aren’t then you have to come for a blood test first (no appointment is needed) and then you’ll have to make an appointment for platelets. Therefore:

There are two different categories of donors:

1. Regular donors can make an appointment directly for a platelet donation provided there has been a minimum of 15 days since the last donation (blood, plasma or platelets).

2. New donors can give blood the first time and after 15 days they can give platelets.
This information is valid as long as the person donating does not come within categories of people who cannot make donations.

Platelet donation is possible in different hospitals in Brussels (including Woluwe and Erasme), in addition to centre Albert Hustin. All recommend you make an appointment.

The Brussels Local Staff Committee and Cancer Support Group ask you to help our colleague Ana’s daughter, Cristina, who suffers from acute myeloid leukaemia.  Cristina needs blood urgently, she is compatible with all blood groups. We count on your support.

I have been walking the corridors of Bordet since the beginning of March, when my daughter Cristina started her treatment there for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML).

I dare to contact you all today to ask that you consider helping Cristina with her ever growing need for blood supplies, in particular platelets. Despite daily transfusions, her platelet count keeps dropping to 0. Her illness’s “uncontrollable hunger” for platelets demands a particularly heavy effort on the part of Bordet in terms of providing the necessary.

If you think that you can help, I would ask that you make an appointment with the “Centre de Transfusion Albert Hustin” in St Pierre Hospital in Brussels (tel. 02-535 4581), indicating that your donation is for Cristina, patient at Bordet’s Haematology service (Service Hématologie). Centre Albert Hustin works closely with Bordet and is located at 290 Rue Haute- 1000 Brussels &

Even if you are not in a position to help yourself, I would ask that you transmit this message to others that might be able to do so.

Thank you very much. Be assured of my most sincere gratitude,

A step towards wellbeing… the Reiki experience

Reiki information in German: Reiki experience v12_DE

The music is soft

The hands are laid

The energy comes and flows, making you feel well

The mind quietens, the body relaxes

The process of self-healing strengthens

The sense of wellbeing increases …

The practice of Reiki is integral to your wellbeing. Reiki stimulates the capacity of your body to self-heal, enabling a state of relaxation and harmony, encouraging spiritual development and thus contributing towards personal transformation. The Reiki energy is transferred by the practitioner through individual sessions for your greater benefit. A session lasts about 60 minutes.

nota bene: Reiki is not a replacement for traditional therapeutic treatments, it supports them.

Thanks to the current infrastructure, the Cancer Support Group can offer more colleagues and fellow Reiki practitioners the opportunity to receive or practice Reiki.
